#Craftyrox, Sewing for Boys

Monaluna Simple Life Tour

I was beside myself with glee when Gemia from Phat Quarters and  Kelly from Handmade Boy invited me to create a project for Seb featuring Monaluna’s newest organic fabric series, Simple Life. Sewing for my son with gorgeous fabric! What an opportunity!

Monaluna is a small independent fabric company based out of California. Many of the prints are inspired by nature. All the fabric is made with 100% organic cotton and has a high thread count. It feels so luxurious!

Seb was pretty excited over my selected combo of Bear Family and Herringbone. I knew both the prints would be perfect for him, but even with that knowledge, making the final choice was still hard. The whole Simple Life series is gorgeous. Phat Quarters  many of the other prints available. Even with the theme of the tour being boy projects, the series will work fabulously for all sorts of handmade items for boys or girls and even adults.  Monaluna graciously provided me with enough of each of the two prints  I selected for this project.

I’m a big fan of woven shirts on Seb but he finds the large number of buttons intimidating on full button-up shirts. I thought Blank Slate Pattern’s Prepster Pullover would be a perfect match for style, satisfying a picky 6 year-old. and taking advantage of the wonderful weight of the Monaluna organic fabrics used.

Blank Slate Patterns is pretty consistent in quality and I confidently bought the Prepster Pullover exclusively with this project in mind. It allowed me to feature both prints without either one looking like it was in competition with the other. The details of the shirt design look greatwith a vibrant contrast. The only issue I had with sewing the pattern was trying to decide which size to make, I’d rather not have Seb outgrow the shirt overnight.

Both Seb and I adore the shirt for looks and softness. The rich quality of the Monaluna organic fabric really makes the shirt feel high-end.  I may have even gotten myself into a bit of trouble because he now wonders why his ready-to-wear shirts do not feel as nice!

I love this post so much. Your shirt is amazing and your fabric choices are so cute together. Plus, Seb is just about the cutest thing ever! I adore that final pic of him!

This fabric is a great choice for this pattern. I’m going to have to go back and check out this pattern again, looks like I’ll need to buy it!

I love the fabric combination and the pattern! I always shy away from nice shirts for my boys since they grow so fast, but I may have to try this pattern.
