Boys CAN Wear Pink Season 3 Tour

I am thrilled to be part of Season 3 of Boys Can Wear Pink, a celebration pink infused boy style. Handmade Boy always organizes one heck of a tour, so be sure to check out the other participants and enter the giveaway at the bottom of this post. It makes me all sorts of happy when this tour makes the rounds. I LOVE seeing all the projects for boys (and men).

For this round I just knew Seb needed something featuring pink and house cats since those are his two passions that have stood the test of time. I found this great organic cotton, Cool Cats by Carolyn Gavin for Windham Fabrics, on Etsy. The fabric told me it needed to be something exciting like a jacket. We actually need mid-weight jacket and I always feel like jackets get the most use. A great way to squeak out as much wear as possible from the that special print! To make the jacket, I used Shwin Designs Submarine Pullover with a few modifications.

Deviating from the original pattern, I added elastic to the sleeve hems, a zipper front, and a lining. The cozy gray fleece lining beefs up the cotton exterior and will make it the perfect Spring jacket for Seb. I’m glad I finally got around to sewing this pattern now since I needed to cut a 7 for this project and the sizing only goes up to an 8.

I originally was also going to hack a slightly different pocket but I stuck with the Submarine Pullover’s patch pockets. They are the perfect size for keeping hands cozy or small feline companions.

We both love the jacket and Pen can not wait for it to get passed down to her one day!

Ohhhhh, tiny Seb in those flashback pictures are giving me all the feels!!
I’m not even a cat person, and I feel like I NEED this fabric and this jacket for myself. It’s so awesome.

I really want to create a similar jacket for myself. I’m torn over fabric choices and which pattern I should use/hack though. That might mean I’ll never get around to the project. Ha!

A size 7!? No way! He can’t possibly be old enough to be in big kid sizes, can he?? Adorable jacket, another awesome year on the tour 🙂

PS: It must be a sew-blogger son’s right of passage to leave the fabric store with those stuffed animals! (My kids have multiple :P)

Yes! He mostly needs the 7 for length but he was seriously like a 3 when I started this blog. Those stuffed animals are some sort of “my parent sews” badge for kids. Haha!

Thank you so much Melissa. I just knew the fabric would be the perfect fit for Seb when I first saw it!
